Axalta Coating Systems in collaboration with Springer, a Division of SpringerNature, has published Protective Coatings: Film Formation and Properties. The book focuses on the fundamentals of film formation in organic coatings, the characterization methods used to study the film formation process, and the relationship with final coating properties.

Dr. Mei Wen, Research Associate at Axalta Coating Systems and Dr. Karel Dušek, Emeritus Professor of the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry (IMC), Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic serve as Lead Editors for the textbook. A motivating factor for this text is the observation that many of the methods used to characterize film properties are largely empirical. Protective Coatings aims to explain the methods that are necessary to characterize complex coating systems and provides readers with a more rigorous understanding of the film formation process, coating properties, appearance, defect formation, and durability. Readers will also learn about contemporary trends in these areas, and various ways to improve coatings performance.
